Unlike at a traditional school, we don't always get the opportunity to see your student while they are learning. As such, we need to get our proof of learning from other sources. At PBB we call this attending to learning.

Attending to learning in classes with PBB means:

  • Regularly handing in assignments
    • Do not hold on until the end of a unit to hand them all in at once.
    • Regularly differs from class to class but students should expect to complete at least one assignment per week. Teachers will be clear with specific course expectations.
  • Checking Palliser email and Chat regularly
    • These are our primary modes of communication with students.
    • Checking and responding to emails is vital in maintaining communication.
  • Connecting with the class teacher at least once a week
    • Teachers have live sessions that can be attended.
    • Teachers have time for 1-on-1 sessions, but too many students to run a separate class session for each student. These sessions need to be focused on specific questions and scheduled in advance.
    • Asynchronous communication (via email and/or Chat) is acceptable if it is of an academic nature. Responding to feedback or asking questions is appropriate, commenting on the weather or "Just checking in" is not.

Attendance will be taken once a week and communicated via Edsby. An absence from a course indicates the student has not attended to learning for that week.

In the event that a student is not attending to learning and not being successful in their courses, the following actions may be taken by the school:

  • Requests for a meeting with the student and family
  • Removal of access to the course until a student is able to meet with their teacher
  • Removal of the student from the course (students and families will be notified prior to removal)
